Math Intervention

In our math sessions, we offer a highly personalized, one-on-one intervention experience tailored specifically to address individual learning challenges such as dyscalculia. We follow the concrete-representational-abstract sequence, ensuring that concepts are solidified in a meaningful way while keeping rote work to a minimum. Our approach is interactive and engaging, heavily utilizing games and manipulatives to make learning enjoyable and effective. To enhance engagement, we incorporate songs and chants into our lessons along with movement-based games. You will frequently see us move around the room, hopping on one foot, or heading outside to gather materials for real world math. I am trained in the Orton Gillingham approach and have extensive experience with various successful programs, including Singapore Math, Math U See, Right Start, and Math with Confidence. The Rooted method fosters a deeper understanding and mastery of foundational mathematical skills, setting students up for long-term success. My rate for math tutoring is $80 for a 60 minute session in your home or $60 for 60 minutes online over Google Meet. My home radius is Northeast Surrey, Langley, and Aldergrove. Please contact me if you are outside these areas.

Our literacy intervention program emphasizes essential foundational skills crucial for young learners. Utilizing the University of Florida's Literacy Institute Foundations Program, I aim to guide children in developing their reading abilities. This program is rooted in the Orton-Gillingham approach, but with less focus on multisensory learning techniques. Its systematic and structured design ensures that students have ample time for practice and review, which reinforces their understanding. Children enjoy the clear expectations and the repetition that help solidify their skills, while also engaging in creative and enjoyable activities that promote learning. Overall, our sessions not only enhance reading proficiency but also make learning a fun and dynamic experience for kids. My rate for literacy tutoring is $80 for a 60 minute session at your home or $60 for a 60 minute session online over Google Meet.

My approach to working with children focuses on addressing lagging skills rather than modifying behavior. This differentiation is crucial to understanding how I support children with unique learning needs. Instead of enforcing neurotypical social skills—such as compelling eye contact—I adopt a neuro-affirming strategy that recognizes and values each child's individual strengths and challenges. I prioritize meeting each child at their current developmental point, helping to build capabilities that are meaningful for them. The ultimate goal is to work on skills that both the child and their parent identify as important. Throughout my experience, we have tackled a variety of areas to empower children and facilitate their growth. These include:

1. **Communication Skills**: Improving the ability to express oneself and understand others is foundational in any learning journey. We work on verbal and non-verbal communication tailored to each child's comfort zone, enhancing their ability to engage in conversations effectively.

2. **Solving Social Problems with Siblings**: Navigating relationships with siblings can be complex. We focus on conflict resolution, negotiation, and understanding emotions in familial settings, which creates a harmonious home environment.

3. **Personal Finance**: Understanding the basics of managing money is an essential skill that contributes to independence. Together, we explore budgeting, saving, and spending wisely, tailored to the child's age and understanding.

4. **Housekeeping Skills**: Life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and organizing are fundamental for fostering independence. We break down these tasks into manageable steps, making them accessible and achievable.

5. **Completing Appointments, Errands, and Community Activities**: Building independence in community settings is vital for real-world learning. We practice planning and executing errands, attending appointments, and participating in local events, ensuring that each child feels confident and prepared.

My hourly rate for behavior intervention services is $60 for the first hour and $50 for each additional hour thereafter. This structure allows for flexible support tailored to the needs of each child and their family. By addressing skills in a way that respects the unique qualities each child brings to the table, I aim to foster resilience, confidence, and independence. My commitment is to work collaboratively with families, ensuring that the goals we set are aligned with the child's aspirations and capabilities, creating a pathway for success in their journey.
